Pornhub purge: porn site will remove many videos by the end of June
Bad news: Pornhub has announced it will remove all content that doesn’t comply with the platform’s new rules. This is the porn site’s biggest purge since 2020, when it removed 80% of its videos.
Under the updated rules, video creators must disclose the ages of all participants in documents and confirm that they have given consent.
Pornhub moderators will contact the authors by June 30, 2025, and if they can’t provide that information, the video will be removed and the account will be locked. Not just making the video unavailable in any country, but specifically erasing it permanently.
This is done in accordance with a new European law – Digital Services Act (DSA), according to which large platforms, including porn, must protect minors from inappropriate content. Failure to comply means hefty fines.
Pornhub has plenty of channels of studios and amateurs who will confirm everything you need. But most of the content is pieces or entire videos from other platforms. Since it’s not done by the producers, actors and actresses themselves – the channels won’t pass inspection.
In 2025, Pornhub will become like Onlyfans, where only content from users with a check mark will be uploaded. This will not solve the problem of “banned videos” – they will just be uploaded to less reliable porn sites.
The main thing that the authorities and organizations pushing porn sites are asking for is to introduce age verification of users either by passport or by ID in the device.
Pornhub has repeatedly responded that it supports the introduction of updated verification, but doesn’t want personal data leaks. Analysts, too, have gathered statistics that the new rules don’t protect users – those leaving for platforms without restrictions.
“Users will simply migrate to the dark corners of the Internet, where they are not asked to specify their age, where the law is not enforced, where security is irresponsible and where content is often not even moderated. In practice, such laws have made the internet more dangerous for everyone” the study quoted
But it seems that neither journalists, human rights activists, nor the authors of such initiatives have yet realized that people won’t look at passport porn. The only thing they will achieve is that sex content will be more closed, stigmatized and dangerous.
In the meantime, you have a little over a month to find your favorite Pornhub videos on other platforms or download to a flash drive. Remember the basic safety rules!
